With a spire that once rose above all else in Christchurch, the Christ Church Cathedral still stands as a monument to determination. Meant to be the central figure in town, the cathedral's foundation stone was laid in 1864, taking 40 years to complete. Services are still held in the cathedral, which also hosts a visitors' centre and cafe. Address: Cathedral Square Chirstchurch New Zealand
