This helicopter-accessed free skiing park offers 380 hectares of awesome backcountry terrain in the Mount Somers area. Whether skiers and boarders want to train or play, the choice of lines and number of runs is up to them. Heli Park takes care of safety and lunch.

The Temple Basin Ski Area has a ski and snowboard school, equipment rental, accommodation, and slopes for beginners up to experts. The hill is a 45-min walk from the parking lot but is worth it for the scenic view, being outdoors, and, of course, the destination.

Located one and a half hours from Christchurch, Broken River offers exciting terrain including a series of rolling bowls and awesome runs to challenge all abilities. Although beginners can enjoy sections on Broken River, some previous experience is advantageous. The surrounding basins offer an exhilarating untracked back country experience for the adventurous. The ski area features a large day lodge with kitchen and dining facilities, canteen, skiing and snowboarding lessons, and centrally heated lodge accommodation. Ski and snowboard hire is not available at Broken River.

Roundhill Ski Area uses the local climate to its advantage with a snowmaking system. Guaranteeing snow every season, Roundhill has accommodation, rental equipment, and ski and snowboard schools. The ski area also has a terrain park and tubing lift.

The Craigieburn Valley Ski Area is geared towards intermediate and advanced skiers. The terrain is steep and the snow is deep. Some touring away from the patrolled areas is allowed but with a number of conditions. No ski hire is available.

Fourty-five minutes drive from Omarama, the Ohau Ski Area offers consistent, powder snow from mid-July to the end of September. The ski area caters for beginner through advanced skiers and snowboarders. Instruction is offered for both skiing and snowboarding.
